Statutory Signage (As per Australian Standards)

Signage for? Requirement/s
Fire / Smoke Doors- In capital letters not less than 20mm high in a colour that has high contrast to the background state-
(a) when fire/smoke door held open by an automatic hold-open device; and for a door discharging from a fire-isolated stair "FIRE SAFETY DOOR-DO NOT OBSTRUCT"
(b) for self-closing fire/smoke door (e.g. to a fire stair) "FIRE SAFETY DOOR DO NOT OBSTRUCT DO NOT KEEP OPEN"
(c) for all required fire doors Tagged by a QBCC licenced fire door contractor. These tags must specify information relating to the fire door, including the FRL achieved.
Fire hydrant and/or sprinkler booster assemblies
(a) for doors to booster cabinet/enclosure/etc In capital letters not less than 50mm high in a colour that has a high contrast to the background state-
"FIRE HYDRANT BOOSTER", "FIRE HYDRANT AND SPRINKLER BOOSTER" or "COMBINED FIRE HYDRANT AND BOOSTER", as appropriate.
(b) for within booster cabinet/enclosure/etc Engraved sign indicating booster pressure and test pressure (in kPa) that is marked in capital letters not less than 25mm high.



Further to this, a minimum A3 size block plan must be provided.
Cupboards with fire hose reel and/or fire hydrant In capital letters not less than 50mm high in a colour that has high fire hose reel and/or fire hydra Cupboard with FIP (Fire Indicator Panel) contrast to the background state-
"FIRE HOSE REEL" and/or "FIRE HYDRANT"
In capital letters not less than 50mm high in a colour that has a high contrast to the background state-
"FIRE PANEL"
Portable fire extinguishers
(a) in all circumstances Location signage in accordance with AS2444, which must be located no less than 2m above the finished floor level

(b) for doors when located within a cupboard/enclosure In addition to the above, in capital letters not less than 32mm high in a colour that has high contrast to the background state-
"FIRE EXTINGUISHER"
First aid room (as per QDC MP5.1) In capital letters state-
"FIRST AID" and the name of the nurse/attendant on duty
NOTE: The QDC does not specify other details; therefore, Knisco recommends lettering be not less than 20mm high in a colour that has a high contrast to the background.
Lifts Signage warning against using a lift in a fire must be provided near every call button and state in capital letters not less than 10mm high in a colour that has high contrast to the background-
"DO NOT USE LIFTS IF THERE IS A FIRE"
